Licence

The database is made available under the Open Database License (ODbL) v1.0. Individual contents are available under the Database Contents License (DbCL) v1.0.

You are free to share, adapt and use it — including commercially — provided you:

  • Attribute the source, as set out below
  • Share alike — if you publicly use an adapted version of the database, license it under ODbL too
  • Keep it open — do not use technical measures to restrict others' access to the licensed data

Where it comes from

The ingredient catalogue is seeded from a curated Australian subset of Open Food Facts — names, brands, sizes and barcodes only. It grows from there as people add items and scan receipts.

We deliberately do not import Open Food Facts product photographs. Those are licensed CC-BY-SA, but packaging shots contain brand logos and trade dress that Open Food Facts explicitly cannot license onward. Users photograph their own items instead.

Store locations come from OpenStreetMap via the Overpass API.

We do not scrape retailer websites or pricing APIs. Every price in this dataset came from a shopper's own receipt or their own manual entry. Scraping would breach those retailers' terms of service, and it is not part of how this works.

Please read before you rely on the prices

Price observations are reported by members of the public, unverified, and may be out of date. They are not endorsed by, affiliated with, or sourced from any retailer. A price in this dataset means "somebody said they paid this, on this date" — nothing more.

Each observation carries its date so you can judge it. If you republish these figures, carry that caveat with them.

What is not in here

Personal information is excluded from every export by design:

  • Email addresses and account identifiers
  • Device identifiers, including the hashed ones used for rate limiting
  • Precise coordinates — only postcode-level location appears
  • Anyone's pantry, stock levels, usage history or measurement calibration, none of which ever leaves the user's browser in the first place
